Like all Swedish Church records, the Swedish Birth and Christening records vary. They look different in different parts of the country. The difference between a record from the 18th century and the 20th century is even larger. But each entry in a book is fairly similar, making it a little easier.
Don't count on a white Christmas in Sweden Did you know that only 15% of Swedes can count on a white Christmas? I grew up with the risk of snow between October and May, so this was a surprise to me. My childhood winters in central Sweden looked like in the photo above from Uppland in 1908.
The trains connected Sweden in the second half of the 19th century. Sweden is slightly larger than California and in 1890 it had a population of 4.8 million. The train station in Åre, Jämtland County, was built in 1882 and made Åre a leading ski resort. The photo is from the 1890s.
