Discover your ancestor in Sweden
Genealogy research from Sweden to you
I was hoping for something great and this exceeds even that.
Find a Swede was so helpful! I had come to a brick wall with my great, great grandfather in Sweden. Find a Swede was able to find him, and find both his parents.
I was given a report on their lives from birth to death, complete with translations and copies of all the records. It really brought them alive to me. It also led to more discoveries on that side of the family too. I never would have been able to do it on my own.
I will definitely use Find a Swede again in the future and recommend them to anyone researching their Swedish ancestors.
We’ll help you read the records as if you knew Swedish
Because we do
Our Swedish genealogy research is detailed and presented with the international reader in mind. We include enough information for you to understand the records. You will know what they say and what that meant for your family. So that you can understand the life of your Swedish ancestor.
Get to know your ancestor
from a different country and a different time
Imagine knowing exactly where your ancestor grew up. You know where they studied and all the places they lived before emigrating. You have your own copies of photos from the parish and centuries-old colorful maps.
Perhaps it’s time to go see it with your own eyes?
Swedish genealogy research
Let us do it for you
Find a Swede will research your history. We can help you with your brick walls and make sure you get all the information in the records. Our most common project is to follow the life of a migrant. Before we start, we’ll discuss what you are after and how to get there.
Here’s what’s included
- Copies, translations and transcripts of all records used
- Anaylyses of and comments on the findings
- Full citations – of course
- Projects start at 15 hours.
- The hourly rate is 800 SEK. No taxes apply outside of the EU. 25% VAT is added in the EU.
- A 50% deposit is paid before the start of the first project.
Depending on the goal of your research and availability, you will receive any of the following.
- A brief administrative history of the birth parish
- 2 historical maps
- 2 custom made maps
- 4 historical photographs
- Coordinates of the places lived
We had gone as far back in our family tree as my amateur skills would allow as we do not speak or read Swedish. We wanted to know more about our ancestor who had emigrated from Sweden to the US in 1887.
Annika was a great communicator as the project progressed and the final report was well researched and organized. We were thrilled to get so much information about our ancestor and his life (family, work, travels, etc.). It was shared in a way that we could in turn download and print and/or share with others in the family which we appreciated! Can’t thank her enough for working with us on this valuable project!
We look forward to working with Annika on other projects as we explore our Swedish lineage. I recommend her to anyone needing professional assistance to discover their Swedish roots.
Annika here. I’m the owner of Find a Swede. My home is a stone’s throw from the old port of Gothenburg in the south of Sweden. This is where most Swedish migrants left Sweden in the nineteenth century. The old Sweden is evident in everything here and I want to share that with you.
It doesn’t matter if you have a brick wall, or just found out about your Swedish ancestry. You deserve to know the truth about your family history. That’s why I give you more than a list of names and dates. So that you can get to know your Swedish ancestor.

What’s the price in US dollars?
Do you have any shorter and, well, cheaper alternatives?
If it feels like too much money to spend right now, I get it. And I don’t want you to overextend your means to work with me.
But genealogy research cannot be rushed. Particularly not when it includes translations of each record entry used and commentary to bridge the cultural gap between today and 19th century Sweden.
Professional research starts with an analysis of the submitted material and the problem at hand. As genealogists we then search our way through incomplete and inaccurate records, weighing the evidence and arguing for our conclusions. This way, you can trust that what you learn about your ancestor is what actually happened. All of it is handed to you in a report that tells the story of your heritage.
How much is that worth to you?
How is the research delivered?
When you become a client of Find a Swede, you are assigned a private Dropbox folder. You can access it on the web or through your account on the site. This is where all of your documents are stored.
You will receive your genealogy report as a PDF. It includes copies of the records and other images as agreed upon. All images in the report are also delivered as standalone files.
To adhere to the EU privacy regulation GDPR, we remove your folder one year after the research is completed.
Can we work together even if I’m going out of town in the coming months?
Yes. It’s sometimes better to take some time before starting a project.
Give yourself the opportunity to go through all of your material and ask around for more clues. It will make the project more successful. Sure, if the start is slow, it’s harder to predict when I can work on your project.
But when it’s rolling, you don’t have to do anything. I’ll update you once a week on how it’s going and then you’ll get another message when it’s done.
Are you ready to discover your roots?
